MUSIC CONTROL ROOM and RECORDING STUDIOS

Studio recording and mixing classes take place in a state-of–the-art recording facility consisting of a large control room with four adjacent studios. The live rooms in this suite include two full size recording studios plus one medium size studio and an isolation booth. Large windows create good sightlines and an open, spacious feeling throughout.

Construction is consistent with industry best practices and includes floated floors and specially fabricated walls and ceilings, designed to minimize the transmission of sound waves to and from other areas and ensure optimal acoustical characteristics within the rooms.

The music control room is equipped with a Pro Tools HD system, with a full compliment of industry standard digital audio plug-ins, and featuring the Digidesign D-Control interface. An array of outboard microphone preamplifiers and world class analog audio processing devices provides a broad sonic palette and the flexibility to accommodate a wide variety of recording situations.

MINI-SUITES

The four Mini Suites enable students to work on projects individually or in small groups. Each of these rooms is equipped with a Pro Tools HD system, complete with a set of plug-ins similar to the two main studios, plus hardware control surfaces and high definition video playback.

Voice-over work is handled easily via a centrally located narration booth. The Mini Suites are also connected to an extensive sound effects library, accessed through the SoundMiner database program, which features auditioning and search capabilities plus seamless integration with Pro Tools.

SYNTHESIS SUITE

The Synthesis Suite features a variety of analog and digital technology commonly used in sound design and post-production work. Students develop the skills to generate original sounds, and to manipulate and enhance pre-recorded sounds, using a variety of samplers, synthesizers, and digital signal processing tools.

DAW LABS

Two of several digital classrooms at Flashpoint, the Digital Audio Workstation (DAW) Labs are equipped with 24 and 18 Apple iMac workstations respectively. Each station is outfitted with Pro Tools LE software, DV Toolkit, A.I.R. Virtual Instrument box set, an Mbox 2 Pro audio interface, and a MIDI keyboard controller for music and sound design work. When classes are not in session, students may reserve time in this room for project work and additional study.
